April is National Stress Awareness Month!

Since 1992, April has been designated as Stress Awareness Month, aiming to shed light on the origins and remedies for the prevalent stress levels in our society. The goal is to provide a platform for candid discussions about the repercussions of stress, fostering an environment where individuals can openly address their mental health without fear of judgment. Understanding how to navigate stressors can enhance both mental and physical health while also reducing the likelihood of worsening existing health concerns.

When a cascade of puzzling and debilitating health issues started interfering with her life, Robyn Tiger, MD, RYT-500, C-IAYT, started looking outside the box. She decided to try yoga.

In this yogatherapy.health post, Tiger, a radiologist and yoga therapist, shares in detail the symptoms she later learned had resulted from chronic stress and how yoga supported her well-being: buff.ly/3BxZ1yB

Book: The Awakened Brain by Lisa Miller 📚

Lisa is also the founder and director of the Spirituality Mind Body Institute, the first Ivy League graduate program in spirituality and psychology. And, she is the New York Times best selling author of The Spiritual Child and a professor in the clinical psychology program at TeachersCollege, Columbia University.

“This is perhaps the biggest revelation of the awakened brain: that it’s in our innate nature to build a better world. That what’s good for everyone is also what’s best for each one of us.”~ Lisa Miller, Ph.D.

This book shares research on the protective benefits to mental health and wellbeing from having an open and spiritually aware mind. This book shows that “…people across faith traditions—and including those without a faith tradition—the brain appeared able to protect itself from the long-standing neurological structures of depression.”

If you would like to learn more about this research and mindful approach to healthier brains, check out this book and some of the Big Ideas, including:

– The Awakened Brain: it’s a muscle we can learn to strengthen or allow to atrophy.

– Science of Spirituality: from ancient traditions to modern science, this emerging new field is looking at the connections between spirituality, psychology and biology.

– The Quest Orientation: when people live in a state of ‘Quest’, the brain is more coherent and connected, its regions and networks are more in harmony.
